COLOR AND PLAIN WEAVE WITH MARCY PETRINI

November 6th, 2022, 10am – 4pm

WORKSHOP FEE: $70 FOR FULL DAY WORKSHOP
WHERE: NPCC Studio and Online for 20 participants

Hybrid online workshop by Zoom

Colors blend optically in fabric, maximally in plain weave. The same colors, however, can glimmer when arranged in distinct areas. Our brains perceive colors using a number of effects which we will discuss. Then we will use these effects to influence our colors. Over the ground plain weave fabric, rigid heddle weavers can use finger-manipulated techniques to produce color areas; on more shafts, we can use a supplementary warp.

OPTION 1 RIGID HEDDLE HAND MANIPULATION
Color effects will be made with pick-up sticks, twining or rya knots

OPTION 2 4-SHAFT SUPPLEMENTAL WARP
Color effects will be made with a section of supplemental warp, and warping instructions will be provided

OPTION 3 4-SHAFT HAND MANIPULATION
Color effects will be made using hand manipulation, in the same style as rigid heddle weaving

This workshop is for weavers who can warp a loom and weave plain weave independently.

Delivered online by Zoom from Marcy’s studio, there will be introduction and teaching exercises followed by sessions of independent weaving. Questions, assistance, and a review of participant work will take place by webcam or tablet cam.
