Beginner Weaving Workshop

Let’s make a handwoven textured scarf from start to finish!
• Learn how to plan a weaving project and calculate carefully how much yarn you will need.
• Learn the basics of setting up a table loom from warping to tie up.
• Create a beautiful textured scarf using plain weave.
• Finishing techniques will be demonstrated to complete the scarf off the loom.
• The final size of the scarf will be approximately 12” W x 65” L after wet finishing.
Materials for this project include a choice of 2-3 colours in a gorgeous 100% cotton slub yarn and are covered under the materials fee. Students will be able to select their colours ahead of time once they have registered.
This is a 4-day + 2-evening class held at Neilson Park Creative Centre in Studio C (56 Neilson Dr, Toronto ON, M9C 1V7) from 10am-4pm for weekend sessions and 6:30 – 9:30pm for evening sessions. Note that Day 3 is split between 2 evening sessions. Please bring lunch (and snacks!).

Prerequisite: None, this is a beginner class and requires no previous experience.

There is also a $65 materials fee payable to the instructor, due 1 week before the class begins.

About the instructor: Johana Cordero is a textile and fashion artist based out of Toronto. She is a graduate of Sheridan College and NSCAD University where she received her Bachelor of Fine Art in Textile & Fashion studies. Johana brings 8 years of teaching experience and 14 years to her own craft. Her work focuses on hand-dyed fibres that are woven into one-of-a-kind commission pieces for homes and commercial spaces. She likes to approach every project as a unique opportunity to
apply a diverse range of techniques to modernize textiles. Johana is the founder of Loom Studio, a weaving studio dedicated to the practice of traditional
craft techniques and weaving education. Working at Loom Studio, she continues to expand her range of classes and diversifies her teaching abilities with every wonderful student she meets.
